Eh, he got his label and clothing line with his rapping money. He got his rapping money by suckling on the dre/em teat. IMO, he's not talented enough to have earned that money on his own. He followed the lead of Diddy and Jay Z, and he's got businesses... businesses that I'm SURE that he pays other people to run for him. He doesn't impress me. I'm not saying he's a total idiot... but IMO, the foundation of his success is not what it should be... talent. He's no better than Brittany Spears.

Kanye... I don't care for as a person. He loves himself, and he thinks he's far more important than he really is. As an artist, however, he DOES have some talent. I wouldn't call him the greatest in his genre (as some people have), but he's definitely a strong player in the current hip hop scene. I give credit where credit is due.

That is definetly opinion as stated. However 50 cent was doing the mixtape thing for a very long time and had established himself as a legit emcee way before em got a hold of him. Just like eminem did before dre put him on. 50 is talented. He raps about what sells like 90% of rappers do these days. If you have ever heard any of his mixtapes even during the mad rapper days you would see what I am talking about.

The fact of the matter is most people post em era really dont know what lyricism is let alone talent. Most of these same people thought kid rock was lyrical. 50 cent sold himself and he did it well. Sucking on em and dre's teat as you so nicely put it is a weak argument. Dre's production on get rich or die trying was very limited. Em produced one song if I remember. 50 did all of the writing and his delievery was on point not to mention for most of the album he was solo.

As for Kanye he definetly on. His style is different and his delievery is on point. Cassidy and even Lupe are a couple notches above him. A really talented artist that I'm sure most of the clueless posters in this thread would shit on is lil wayne. By and far weezy is up there.

Yea, but who cares if he dosent have talent(even though he does). He didnt come into the business to a be a music phenomenon. He used music as a starting step to build is financial power house. He sold himself, got is initial money and used it to make more money. Its better that half of what the one-hit wonders out there who get some money and waste it on something stupid. How much of 50 do you see? Music, Clothes, Movies, Water, Games, Books, TV shows. There is no money is music, 50 understands that. Look at Jay-z, Diddy, etc. True, not all of his adventures have been as successful as he would like, but he would never know if he didnt try them. Thing about it, under 10 years ago, he was no better than then the millions of other black men in NYC, look at him now.

Seriously, I think he is a genius(or the guy managing he shit). Either way, I would love it if he could be my mentor in a business minded way.

I never doubted his success... just his talent.

The difference between 50 and the guys that followed his path before him is that the other guys have considerable talent. Well, ok... maybe not Diddy... but his impressive skill was to be EVERYWHERE. The man made friends with the world.

50 impressed eminem. 50 got big with In Da Club. 50 rode that one hit and his bad boy reputation to riches.
I never see him representing his own stuff, like Diddy and Jay Z do. To me 50 is no better than the pro atheletes that just pump their considerable wealth into other ventures.

Smart? Certainly. If 50 isn't smart enough to do this stuff, he's at least smart enough to hire someone who is. I have no problem with his success... it's just that I don't understand WHY he's made it so big. He's a mediocre rapper at best. He has a marketable look, and a story that sets him apart.
