I'm going to look at one of these today! That's what a laptop should be.

How'd I miss this thread? After 3 days of talking to you about these things on AIM, Ben! (is that what inspired the thread?)

I'm looking into one. I want to go cheap, so I'll probably get an Eee PC (I know... solid state hard drives are laggy... but cheap!)

haha, i thought you knew about it, lol

anywho, Eee PC's are great as well. Regardless of what you get, you'll be happy for the price you get it at

Yeah, if I get something that works for the price I want, I'll be happy. I really just need it for work. My laptop is too bulky to comfortably use in my car!

I went to walmart today and they didn't have one.

Im going to do some searching now for a better deal.

So the SS are not worth the money because they are laggy?

Q- when you installed Ubuntu did the wireless work as well out of the box or did you have to get it to work?

I had to spend hours getting my USB wireless adapter for my desktop to work under 8.1.

I wouldn't get the ss ones to be used as a full computer. I plan on excel, light internet use, and maybe some music or something... not a replacement for my desktop or laptop. For me, I think they'd be fine. For someone that wants more, the ones Phempa talks about in the first post are much better choices. The prices are about the same brand new. I'm just able to find the EeePC on ebay for a lot less than others.

check newegg, they have better prices overall

solid state hard drives are reliable, faster boot up... but their expensive to upgrade. Its just SS hard drives have a slower write speed compared to regular hard drives

Yea i found a 120G HDD one with XP and 6cell battery(5 hrs of life) on Newegg so i got it bookmarked because target and best buy do not have them and the walmart near me may never have them lol.

Im going to look a few more places.

Mine doesn't need to be as compatible as my desktop(it couldn't lol im running Vista and Ubuntu on 2 different drives flawlessy) but i want movies, music, and pictures so im going with the reg hdd as opposed to SS since ill be fucking with Linux possibly and im going to stick to what i know lol.
