    my laptop is fubar...

    Alright, here's the situation.

On my laptop, I have the power jack - inside the computer, the plug which plugs into the jack, the cord, the transformer, and the cord that plugs into the wall socket.

My old OEM cord, transformer, plug, etc was getting very toasty while powering my laptop (which is a p4 3.06ghz w/ 1gb ram, 80gb hdd, etc). when I powered down, I noticed that the plastic bit in the plug was turning darker... almost black. So I ordered a new one. i was using that for a while, it was running pretty well. I noticed both the plug and transformer were getting hot. Mainly the plug, however (like before).

So, I tried to pull the plug out of the laptop jack last night, it wouldnt move. Longer story shorter, the plug melted inside the jack. When I finally got it out, it took the pin inside the jack with it.

I have the laptop in pieces now. i'm planning on putting a new jack in it.

QUESTION: WHAT THE HELL can be causing the plug to get so hot? It's MELTING! There are no visible marks inside on the motherboard. I am completely stumped. I thought maybe switching to a new cord, transformer, cord, and plug would help. Negative. Now I'm going to repair my computer (try) and I wont even know if the problem was solved.

    Ideas?

I've read that a gap in the solder where the DC jack meets the mobo is the cause. I dont see any burning, charring, etc.

Was the computer sitting so it wasn't getting any air? My HP laptop would get so hot that it'd shut off if it wasn't properly ventilated underneath, and the transformer would get hot as hell.

        Just a thought

you need an computer intercooler if its just for the laptop so you should be good other than that itll overheat.

Its probably your computer getting hot thats causing the plug to melt.

            The transformer normaly gets hot.
