What is it like having a "winter beater"

I've always wondered how people treat these cars.....

First of all, do a lot of people on the east coast have winter beaters other than your CB7? if so, what do you have? if you have another car?

Or if you drive your CB7 year round in roads that are salted/snowy, what precautions do you take? ie: what do you change/swap out to prepare for those bad months outta the year?

What cars are good cars to be "winter beaters" I was thinking something like a Subaru. A WRX would be nice or maybe a 2.5 RS?

    Discuss.

98 Civic hatch is ter winter car. Accord is too sketchy for winter, cable for the heater core actuator dealy is broken (doesnt really matter), when the heat is on full blast it dont do much. The heater does work great, blows hot, its the vent/ducting design that doesnt allow the optimal volume of air to be moved. Driving wise its better than the Civic, but I like to see where im pointing the car

          A WRX for a winter beater for your CB7? C'mon now...a 10-30K car as a winter beater for a $2K car?

With my old Accord I swapped out the front bumper with my fogs/GRacer for a spray painted 92-93 bumper with Auto Zone brand yellow fogs. I then took off the rest of my lip kit and put my 92-93 alloys on and stored my 17's. I had summer compound on the 17's anyways, so I couldn't use them in the winter.

I think I also took off my red/clears for some reason, and removed my OEM floor mats and replaced them with a set of all weather mats. I then oiled and fluid-filmed my quarter panels and I was good to go.

For the record I just didn't drive my Accord...or my STi for that matter when it was super slushy/salty out and I just would hit the car wash anytime the temp went over 32 deg for a day or so.

We don't really get winter here. If it snows, I don't drive my car. I drive one of our extra cars. Either the Ford Escort my grandpa from Buffalo gave us (it is the rustiest car in our neighborhood, lol) or my mom's Odysseey.

a true winter beat is the funnest thing in the world and everyone should have one.

basically you buy it as cheap as possible, and drive it until it dies. if you search on here you'll see my toyota truck i used as a winter beater and that was probably the funnest vehicle i've owened.

I drive my car all year round...I don't think I should though...

I should get an AWD car for winter duty.

                    Subaru? I think so.

The CB is my only car. I swap the alloy wheels for stock steelies with winter tires is about all I do. Also check the tire pressures more frequently as the temp drops. Then just hose the salt and crap every once and awhile.
When/if I restore the body, I'll be putting a bit more time and effort into maintaining it.

too poor to have another car. just use the cb. the rear quarters are rusting too bad to do anything.

here in cleveland if you don't have a garage your car won't last more than ten years. all of my roomates and most ppl on my street have to junk their car due too much rust. lol mine is the oldest yet!

I usually just use my CB7 and cry all winter. This year, however, I'm just going to leave :P
