looking for a new car and need info please

Ok well right now im just looking but i think im going to get me an STI. I was wondering which year was the best. i found 4 and 04, 05, and 2 06's out of those which one is better. i remember reading somewhere that there were certain years of the STI that were faster and better than the others i just cannot figure out where i saw it. i like the style of the 04 and 05 but its really a toss up right now. and im still only looking. no intent to buy just yet

i know there is a guy on here with one but i cannot remember his name (im really bad with names on here).

please dont try to post negative comments about the car im looking at or me. im just looking for some friendly info. thanks

i wouldn't go any lower than an 03 since anything older than that the owners have probably ragged it out. but i wont get an 07 or an 08 have you seen the new style? its ugly as hell

        AccordWarrior has a black one.

I prefer the headlights on the '04-'05 much more than the ones on the '06s. I think its cleaner. Don't start me on the tails.

Wait, which year did hey switch to Alfa Romeo front, was it '06?

My only advice is be VERY careful when searching for used STi's. Young, poor, inexperienced drivers bought these things up by the truckloads only to beat them into the ground and then loose them because they couldn't make payments. So test drive, visually inspect everything, and get a vehicle background check before even talking about prices.

And the guy you are thinking of is AccordWarrior

When AW bought his, he was VERY careful to research all issues, and made sure he got a car that wasn't pounded on. I've driven his car, and it definitely paid off! He babies that thing, though!

Slick, I wouldn't jump into an STi just yet. Make sure your job is stable before you take on an expensive car like that. Even used, it's going to cost more than a new 4 cylinder Accord. You'll be making crazy cash now, but if something happens in a year, you're going to have to afford this expensive car on whatever you can make. Just be smart about it... don't act like you're rich just yet!

no purchasing just yet. only looking. i wouldn't even try to buy it until after like 6 or 7 months with the cash im about to make.

but once again thank you too for the advise. there is a local subaru dealer near me and i plan on going up there since thats where the 4 i found are at.

BTW no one answered the question about which years are best

I have mad respect for STI's.
A buddy of mine has an 06.
I've never been in a car that has pulled as hard as that.
But, he recently had it in the shop for nearly 3 weeks fixing something.
I'm not sure if it was his fauilt or not.
He babies it, but he can get a little wild ocassionally.

100 dollars would barely cover shipping and packing.

i like the EVO also but there is a guy across the street from me with one and he thinks he is awesome since he has it.

The STi is a more luxurious car. The Evo is very much a race car for the street. Both are amazing cars.

There are some problems with ALL years for the STi... many are due to improper use. They don't hold up to hard launches very well. The Japanese don't make cars with American drag launches in mind!

If you buy an STi, get a certified preowned car with a warranty. If there are any issues, hopefully they'll arise within the warranty. DO NOT BEAT ON IT, at least until the warranty is up! When I drove Mike's car, he wouldn't let me go past 4k. He did a full-on 3rd gear pull for me, and he said that was one of the few times he's done that. He babies that car, and it shows. The previous owner seems to have run it a little harder, but it's still in good shape.

Of course, if you save a little more money, you could afford a BMW 135i

I have driven the 2006 STI and 2006 EVO MR. To be honest, the EVO had better acceleration to me. The STI seemed like it took forever to hit boost. Went on an hour long test drive in the EVO...surprised the dealer let me take it by myself. Went to a buddys house and he drove the shit out of it. Went to the gas station and got out, shit reaked of clutch. Smoke coming from the clutch. I drove it back to the dealer and parked it, handed them the keys, told them I'd get back with them....and never went back.

The STI they were in the car with me to test drive. It is a lot more comfortable to be in, but like I said I don't think it hit boost quite as fast.

From what I understand on both of the cars is that the EVO uses a smaller engine, bigger turbo...while the STI uses a bigger engine, smaller turbo.
