I've been asked many times why don't I fix my doors and the dents and dings on my car, I told people quite simply, Thats the last on my list. The engine, drivetrain, and suspension comes first rather than body work I do not need. I can actually say that my accord has never left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. For that matter NO car i've owned left me stranded.
I hope some of the people on here will read this and come to their senses of what to spend their money on.
never had mechanical problems with my car until years after purchase(when I blew my head gasket). I did small maintenance here and there but my major concern was always aesthetics. After I blew the gasket I rebuilt the engine replacing every gasket, seal and belt on the motor then continued with upgrading the body. I definitely understand where u are coming from cause i see it all the time in Fl....dudes spend $500 on a hooptie, do no maintenance then spend $3000 - $4000 on rims and then u see them broken down on the side of the road.

yep it's all priorities I chose to go for body work first because the fendors were copletely effed up! and the body just needed major love. hell it was running fine besided I got all the materials to paint the car for free so I didn't think twice about it, then I did brake pads and then I replaced the master cylinder because my brakes wre going to crap. now I need tires, gasket seals, and fan belts. I might just get a full tune up.
Most of my mods have been due to necessity. I don't modify, I upgrade when I replace something. My headlights are an exception (and honestly, with the added visibilty of HID, I DO feel it's necessary now!)
My swap was done because my F22A was leaking, and the tranny was grinding badly. My rims were purchased because I needed tires... $800 for rims and tires, or $500 for just tires... My suspension (originally) was because my old stuff was tired... the new stuff fell into my lap, and is better quality. Exhaust and intake... necessary to make the H22 work correctly (can't easily run the stock airbox, and the stock exhaust didn't hang on longer than a month!) My traction bar went on because my crossmember had taken one too many hits, and was all torn up (much of it was done before me). My paint was only done because of the quarter panel rust, which would've eaten the car if it wasn't fixed.
I do totally agree. A car needs to be in proper running condition. The suspension and brakes need to be safe and solid (fixing my brake master cylinder this week). The necessary electronic equipment needs to function properly (I really need to fix my battery cables!)
Ok, I guess I'm a little guilty of neglecting the necessary things...
also alot of ppl fix the outside of the car before they upgrade under the hood.
for sum reason a lot of ppl (at least here in sa) assume u have other shit done to ur car because u have rims or a body kit or exhaust ect ... and wana race
thats why ... imo ... i'D rather fix my car up to be quick than to look nice
you know
my car may not have the body kit, or rims or whtvr ... but i'll fkn smoke ur ass

All my appearance mods also were done out of necessity. I have a retro fit but only because I used to do alot of night driving and needed more light.
Suspension for me was a balance of both actually. I needed new shocks and springs so I just bought new ones and lowering springs while im there.
I changed my power steering rack last week, I fixed an exhaust leak, and tomorrow I'm welding in my patch panel for the quarter panel rust.

so far all ive done was sri. upper strut bars. new brakes. going to have to rewire my speaker wire but im going to hold off on that for a while. now that my header is getting gross im going to replace that with an aftermarket one then do exhaust cause my stock piping wont fit on the aftermarket one. might get rims when i wear the tires down or just get new tires for the steelies. and of course i always change my oil, brakes, plugs, and whatever else when it needs replacing. i try not to spend my money when i dont need to.
check out my members ride thread... i try and do the same as Deev stated... upgrade while having to replace shit.... i have put alot of work into mine and function and form go hand and hand with each other.... it all needs to be done
Please, Leave me some feeedback on my ride ^CLICK ^CLICK ^CLICK
