Problem with our Ford Focus Wagon.... Help?!

OK yall, this problem is with our other car, a 2001 Focus Wagon SE with Zetec motor.

Here is the story on my 2001 Focus SE Wagon with 135k

A few days ago my wife and I were in the car with our son on the way home from Chipotle (Mmmmmm....) and when we went to take off from a stop, I had the gas pedal down like normal but the car was acting like the gas pedal was rapidly being pushed in and out making for a real herkey-jerkey take off. Once the car was up to speed it ran better. I took it to the shop and explained to thm what was happening, and they said that it could possibly be the idle sensor. They replaced the idle sensor and cleaned the throttle body. They they stated that it should be "good to go". On my 40 min drive home, it ran good for the first 35 min, but then when I stopped at a stop sign and went to take off, the car stalled out and died. I tried to get the car stated for about 10 min with no success. There would be a couple times that it would start, but the engine light would be on, and engine sputtered very badly. I would then go to put it into gear and it would stall.

I am thinking that it has something to do with the fuel pump but I am not sure. What do you all think? I hate to put too much more money into this car with as many miles as it has on it. But then again, my wife loves the car and wants it fixed... Please help!

    Thanks All!

highly unlikely its a fuel pump. it would run badly at all rpms and be down on power due to lack of volume. sounds like a sensor, ignition or transmission problem

well in our cars a jump tach would mean ignitor, and a hard start or 50% start would mean main relay. So does ford have those things?

Any check engine light? Something tells me its the Dpfe sensor...sort common around Fords..I know the V6 and V8s have em but I'm not sure about the Ztec motor.
