New cars to look out for...

Hello all, I'm just pondering on the future of cars in the next 5-10 years. Performace, new models, fuel sources, etc...

I'm always putting new cars on my mental "possible next car" list but I'm also thinking in 5 years there will be a whole new crop of cars. Here's some I can't wait for...

    - next Honda Prelude
    - next Honda NSX
    - next Honda S2000
    - next Honda Civic
    - next Toyota Supra
    - Nissan 370z or future model z's
    - future Mazda RX models, (rx7, rx8, ?rx9?)
    - future Lotus Esprit

Anymore your waiting for? Discuss... speculation, wishes, hopes,...

I've seen a few new camaros... wow they're nice. In 5 years or so the Chevy Volt will be out... also a real nice car.

Next ones that I cant wait for are the supra and NSX. Honda wants to beat Nissan in Nuremberg. Plus, Nissan V10? SWEEEEEEET! I want to be the first to swap one of those mothers into my CB7

I really want them to bring the prelude back. I mean other than the recently discontinued NSX...for now anyways and the S2k, there really isn't a performance oriented sports car made by Honda. The S2k's nice but it isn't very practical for things. The NSX costs WAY to much for the avg. joe, so that really just leaves the Accord V6 6spd, and even that isn't REALLY a sports car. So I'm hoping on the prelude concept as a possibility....maybe something to aim for when I graduate from college.

Actually, Honda currently has more sporty offerings than a lot of other manufacturers.

The Si, in two versions depending on what appeals to you more.

The S2K. There were some rumors that it would be replaced by '08, but I think they may wait until the replacement is ready. This car is built in Tochigi, and they probably want to try and keep that plant busy as I believe the only other car that is currently built in that plant is the Civic Type R. This was the birthplace of the NSX as well, and will probably be the birthplace of the next NSX.

The Accord V6 6 speed which dynamically would probably give the old Prelude a run for its money anywhere outside of a racetrack (could probably be setup to run there too), and will absolutely stomp the crap out of it in any kind of drag contest.

Then, the TSX while not overtly powerful, is a very fun car to drive, as well as the TL-S. Those are not really Hondas, and exist in a higher price level, but ARE still available.

The CR-Z will probably be out soon, and I just have a funny feeling that at least one version of it will come with the Si powertrain in a lighter and smaller package a'la CRX.

Toyota has the Corolla S and the Scion TC.

Nissan has the Sentra SE-R, the Z, and the GT-R, I suppose if you can count the Accord V6 6speed, then you can count the Altima coupe 6 speed as well.

Mazda has the MX-5. The MS3 and the RX-8.

Chrysler has the SRT-4 in an affordable price bracket.

Ford has, well pretty much nothing, unless you want a stang.

Chevy will be the one with many offerings, of course they are ginormous, so they should have relatively many offerings.

There is no supra, period. There is no re badging. The Lexus LF-A, assuming thats what your referring to, is not meant to be the Supra replacement.

Toyota has really changed their focus and business strategy since the mid 90's. They're main focus now is the economy, economical cars, etc. They're really not into the driving pleasure thing any more.

little tid bit, the Hybrid system the new altima uses was bought from toyota

Not likely. It's sole purpose in the automotive world is flexibility and economy, with what amounts to build quality and materials far beyond its sticker price. The chassis could certainly do it, but I don't see a "performance version" of that car doing real well in the states. The Fit sport has great handling and suspension, it just doesn't have a lot of power.

The S2K is going to get a makeover and I think renamed something else. I don't remember.
