E-85 ethanol is used in engines modified to accept higher concentrations of ethanol. Such flexible-fuel vehicles (FFV) are designed to run on any mixture of gasoline or ethanol with up to 85% ethanol by volume. There are a few major differences between FFVs and non-FFVs. One is the elimination of bare magnesium, aluminum, and rubber parts in the fuel system. Another is that fuel pumps must be capable of operating with electrically conductive ethanol instead of non-conducting dielectric gasoline fuel. Fuel injection control systems have a wider range of pulse widths to inject approximately 40% more fuel. Stainless steel fuel lines, sometimes lined with plastic, and stainless steel fuel tanks in place of terne fuel tanks are used. In some cases, FFVs use acid-neutralizing motor oil. For vehicles with fuel-tank mounted fuel pumps, additional differences to prevent arcing, as well as flame arrestors positioned in the tank's fill pipe, are also sometimes used.[citations needed]
I just started using e85 in my h22a4 92 lude. I have the accord injectors in it though (or maybe h23..can't remember) and i'm running a p13 ecu. I haven't noticed any real differences though. The only thing i'm kinda concerned with is instead of getting a puff of black smoke when i take off real hard, i get a grayish color puff of smoke. I'm still waiting on figures for gas milage. I was going to take off flex line from fuel filter too after a few tanks and check her out.
WTB:
88-01 prelude 2.0si (3g) si (4g,5g)
OR
90-93 Accord.
Has to be 5spd, has to be CHEAP. SUPER CHEAP. Will be in Indiana in February permanently and want a project car when I get settled in.
I dont think it was e85. I think it was ethanol free. That's the reason for the huge gas mileage figure. I have up to 10% ethanol in the tank right now.
I'm getting an average of twentyfive on my accord but the motor is in poor shape and I'm broke so i'm doing my best to maintain it but I'm taking it to get tuned up asap. or when i get the money
I've had like 40mpg. Not kidding, I was about 130 miles away from home, with 1/2 tank of fuel, when I got home I still had more than 1/4 tank left in there. So it only used like 3 gallons of fuel; Im sure driving down hill about 75% of the time, and me not using the accelerator helped
