    I changed the oil whenever the dash display said to (I drive too much to do it every 3000... it has a computer that supposedly calculates when it's due, and I trusted it). I changed the tranny fluid at 70k, as per the manual, and I'll change it again with synthetic when I add an additional cooler. I did maintain the GTP quite well.


    I'm wondering if my failed water pump, which did not result in the car overheating (I caught it in time), could be a contributor to this. The lower intake manifold gasket is a common thing to fail on these, and it's associated with the cooling system as well.
    I think it was just a matter of the seals leaking for awhile, and the progressively got worse, and then when the major seal (rear main) went, it was just the end of the road.
