Unfortunately, these tests are like $30 a pop, so doing it isn't common, which leaves lots of internet speculation. These test are quite common in aviation, so the health of the engine can be monitored at all times, and the $30 is a minimal cost in the face of maintaining and airplane, or worse, replacing an engine, which usually starts at $12-20K on the cheapest end.
