    quick lotus question

    who makes lotus engines?
    cause someone told me Honda made their engines...
    I just saw a pic of a 91 lotus something with an isuzu engine.

    Right now they are using Toyota engines.

        They have used Honda engines in the past, I think they used K-series in the previous gen Elise.

          the Elise uses the 2ZZ-GE from the Celica GT-S, the K20 was never installed from the factory. people swapped them in. the old Esprit was a Lotus built TT V8. the Elise/Exige is the only Lotus to use a non-Lotus built powerplant.

            Nope, the previous engine (in the first-gen Elise) was a British Rover engine. It's a 1.8L Rover K-Series..not the same as a Honda K-Series. You got the K part right though, lol.

            And CoPilot1 is right, the current engine(and tranny, last I checked) are sourced from the now-defunct Celica GT-S. The engine makes make a bit more power, probably due to the different intake/exhaust, and I'd bet slightly different engine management (I think the VVTL kicks in sooner possibly, compared to the Celica)

              Mostly toyota for now but from what I hear the new new lotus' are developing there own motors instead of outsourcing.

                  Yea, the EMS was tuned to be more agressive, that with a different intake/exhaust.
