You mean like the way Toyota had dealt with all of the sludging problems in their engines over the last 10 years? Specifically in the Camry and Solara? What a model of how it should be done.
On a total sales number basis the number of these engines was several magnitudes more than the Honda trannies in the Si's (of which approximately 20,000 annually are made, and of which a small % has trouble). And Toyota's engines didn't just develop and annoying symptom, they failed completely. Toyota's excuse? The engines weren't being driven properly. They refused to replace or fix anything until the lawsuit settlement said they had to.
What a role model and example of how it should be done.

But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.
Thanks Tommy!

I'm just saying my next car will not be a NEW Honda. Ive had a 92, 93,94, and 94 accord. I currently own two Honda's and daily drive both. Mid nineties was the time of greatest build quality in Japanese cars in my opinion.. But you cant have a car forever and within the next 6 months I will buy a new car.. And surprise it wont be Japanese or American .. .I can own and mod a Honda or any car without being a fanboy. I work on 10+ cars daily mostly brand new ( under 10 miles ) And have found my likes shifting over the last couple years
I never said Honda hadn't been sued did I? Trying to put words into my mouth to justify your slip up I see. I never said Honda was perfect, but nor am I the one spouting the superiority of Toyota's customer service, which anything but a blind eye would see isn't perfect.
As a side note though, Honda's lawsuit said that they had to fix the failed trannies, but it said nothing about extending the warranty, which Honda went ahead and did anyway. Toyota did no such thing in the sludge case. At least when called on it, Honda went above and beyond what they had to, unfortunately something that can't be said about the almighty Toyota.
As far as your experience about working on cars or what you will buy, nobody really cares, and it really has nothing to do with anything, especially not this topic.

I worked for Toyota...and warranty screws everyone...the techs don't get paid enough hours for the job, it barely covers what the customer needs...if at all...and warranty doens't like to agree to do things.
That is the extended warranty mostly.
another word on the toyota oil...it was due to tight bearing clearances and crappy oil (old penzoil formula) they switched to castrol as a result. If those engines have their oil changed every 3k no longer, with good quality oil (I hear penzoil recently reformulated so I can't speak to the new stuff) then there are no problems. My folks drive the van with that v6 currently with no issues.
Then of course there are govt. mandated recalls...campaigns are where the company does it of their own free will, either before the govt. gets involved or on issues that the govt. wouldn't...I can't speak for honda as I didn't work for their company, but as a tech with toyota I saw TONS of campaigns, customers got mail outs for those from toyota to inform them of the issue too.
But...still...toyota's and honda's last well...there will always be exceptions...and if you buy brand new you should always get extended warranties (read the fine print...they don't all cover completly)...techs hate 'em but they cover the owners ass a lot. Toyota IS good about trying to clean up problems, there were always tsb's and campaigns done to fix issues like this...I.E. Tundra oil pan leaking, camry/corolla belt tensioner squeek, OLD toyota truck head gasket replacment....etc etc...some where done on vehicles with well over 100K as a warranty item.
But again, there are exceptions to that as well...there will always be something that the company won't think is a problem...and yes...a lawsuit will get that fixed. It's happened to toyota too.
Either way, Toyota and Honda are at the top of the reliability food chain.____
