why do our CB7's or Hondas in general make that wind up noise when going in reverse?

I've always wondered about this....my Mom's Toyota Sienna doesn't make this sound. It is how the gear is made or situated in the tranny? what exactly makes that sound audible?

the teeth on the reverse gear are straight as to where the forwand gear have a swirl like pattern to them. later.

I've always been told its the difference between the square cut (spur) gears used in reverse, compared to the helical gears used for regular forward gears.

The helical gears engage over a period of time, rather than just clanging together like square cut gears.

edit: damn, type g beat me.

Thats a pretty cool little song.

I hear it in Honda's, but i wanna say ive heard it in other cars as well. Of course they were imports and most likely MT's.

Ive often wandered how fast i could go in Reverse too.....
