Yup. Many of the fastest drag cars are auto... I've seen some absolutely sick domestic V8s running 8s and 9s with a powerglide. Killer launch, one shift, single digit quarter mile times.

Stock for stock... the manual is generally faster.

Build them both, especially boosted... and the auto may end up being the faster of the two. The biggest problem with Honda automatics, especially the F/H autos, is that they don't hold up to abuse very well. To put 400hp through an H22 auto is impressive (and it IS impressive... I rode in one last Saturday ).

lol yea or maintenance of the motor. Stephan uses an xtrac trans on his civic as I recall. Lots of import drag racers use this trans whether fwd or rwd convert. Rarely see powerglides and such mated to a honda. At least I havent yet. But I agree powerglides are so much win. Im gonna go mate one onto my dads buick. I dont know how but I will.
