    estimate to do timing belt:

    So, they say that the:
    timing belt takes 4.2 hours
Balance belt, balance shaft seal, balance shaft seal retainer takes 3 hours
    Water pump takes 1.5 hours
Valve cover gasket takes .6 hours
4 spark plug tube seals take .6 hours...
    total 9.9 hours
    X $95/hour
$940.50 to put on the parts!!
but the guy said he could do it for $800...

umm... no I dont think so. A garage at home quoted me about $250-300 to put this on... I'll wait.
$800-300=500... I'm sure I can replace the valvetrain for that much :P

    Is $800 a good deal?!

no they shouldnt charge you 1.5 hours for water pump or balance belt and seals cause there already in it doing the timing belt... all that stuff has to be took off anyways to do the timing belt so they shouldnt charge you for it..... you should be able to find someone to do a timing belt for around 400$ you could always buy a book or get on shopkey get all the info and do it yourself..... if you get all parts from honda your looking at around 200 dollars in parts....

Please, Leave me some feeedback on my ride ^CLICK ^CLICK ^CLICK

Wow. My ex did my starter in 15 minutes! Well... I did much of it, but if she had to change a starter, she could now do it as quickly.

Dealer rates are expensive. At least everything in dealer they give you is new. Thats how they do stuff. You want to replace an AC component everything related to that is new. Hence why its so expensive. Might I add they have some crazy labor rates from 90+.

I didn't have it done there. This was in my pre-cb7tuner days. I had it towed to an import specialist and had a starter (with lifetime part warranty), valve cover gaskets with sparkplug tubes, etc and an oil change for $400. Again this was my pre-cb7tuner days.

This was not the dealer. This was meineke...
AND I bought all of the parts. $250 for all of that minus the transmission cooler. If I paid $800 for labor... that'd make the total timing belt tune up $1050...

I hate shops like meineke. They rip people off. I would rather pay the dealer rather than them if I had a choice. Same goes for jiffy lube and crap. Mom went there once and people tried selling her shit she didnt need. Good thing I was there. After that I refuse to go to those stores. So I just do most of my parents work at home whenever I am there.

Paying a shop to do most things isn't worth it. In many cases, you may know your car better than the mechanics do! They know cars in general, but an enthusiast of a particular model often knows more about their favorite car.

The only time I would pay to have work done is if I don't have the proper tools or facilities, and the work would end up costing less than the purchase price of the tools. Of course, with this site as a resource, and all the friends I've made, that's not really going to happen! There's not much that I could want to do to my car that someone here couldn't help me through!
