ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Engine rebuild kit.

I am planning on doing a rebuild on my stock engine. I am trying to decide what route I am gonna go. I am thinking that i want to run a Bisi cam and cam gear but i don't really know how much more i want to do. I think that i want to stay NA. I am mainly looking for input on a quality rebuild kit that won't break the bank. I have done a lot of searching and i am not really coming up with much. I need pistons and all. Any input or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks! -Alex

Your best bet would be to save up and get mostly OEM parts except what you plan on replacing with performance parts. I don't know of a quality "kit" for our engines and I have looked too.

I was also curious if anyone had any experience with the ebay gasket set. I know that most ebay stuff is not the greatest but i know that there are a few variances in pricing on some of the kits, so I'm wondering if the more expensive ones are any better quality wise.

I know prices of car parts are high trust me but you gotta pay to play. Ive looked at all of the Ebay kits too and I care too much about my car to much to trust em. You may wanna look into replacing the engine if you cant afford at least a $1500 rebuild.

BEFORE you do anything, You need to know your own goals. Which judging from what I just read - You don't have a goal.

You say you want to rebuild the stock engine, then say "I need pistons and all" - Why? whats wrong with the ones in it?

What makes you think you need a rebuild in the first place?

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

I am not 100% that I need pistons. I am starting to disassemble it now to assess the damage. I believe that the timing belt jumped so I am not sure if I bent any valves or anything. And the car was also burning allot of oil at the end so I believe that it needs rings. I was just thinking that I might as well replace it all if I am going to have the engine torn apart.

I checked both of their websites and I did not see anything for the SOHC F22. Is there another engine kit that is the same? I am not really sure about it's compatibility with other engines.

Depending on the depth of rebuild you do, this kit will do the water pump seal and most every seal in the head and intake. NOTE: this is for an A1/4, the intake gaskets are different. You can get Nippon pistons and rings off Ebay from mizumomotors for a very decent price. When I bought my rings they were $30 shipped. If you need bearings, I recommend OEM, which you can also find on www.*********.com.

The kit is the top one:

                  http://www.*********.com/catalog/199...ad_gasket.html

Just to put that price in perspective, the Ishino head gasket alone is $65 from most online suppliers.

IMHO man its not worth doing stock rebuilds find a decent used one or build a fast one, For my old crx it cost me right around $1600 to rebuild @ 1/2 price on parts and really after words I had wished i had just bought a b16 for it instead! but if you're just doing it for something to do have fun!

There is a thread on here discussing the "ebay" gasket/seal kit. I'd look it up, if I were you. Granted, not all "ebay" things are made the same, so some may suck, and some may be decent.

My advice is to look up a kit to get a list of everything you need... then buy each part from Honda directly. www.hondaautomotiveparts.com is among the best places to go. www.rockauto.com is a good alternative for cheaper aftermarket parts (when OEM quality doesn't really matter... you can save a few bucks, and their prices are fantastic.)

When you buy a kit, you're paying someone to do all the thinking for you. You're paying someone to gather all the parts for you. They do the thinking, then they charge a profit for it. If the price is cheap, you can guarantee that the quality of the parts will be even cheaper... because the kit seller is getting his cut!
Don't buy a kit. Buy individual parts. If you're too lazy or clueless to do that, then you have NO business attempting a rebuild yourself anyway... because it only gets more complicated from there!

Ok. This will be my first engine build and did just ask about a kit because of the convenience factor. I do not doubt my skills doing a rebuild. I will look at buying all of the parts individually. I was just trying to get a little insight from people that have more experience than I do. I really do appreciate the help! Thanks Deev!

Going to need some specialty tools to do a proper rebuild as in piston to wall clearance's, rod and main bearing clearance's. Atleast a bore gauge and a mic is needed.
