    fleetw00d : 2007 Honda Element EX AWD (2)

2007 Honda Element EX, only 87,043 miles at time of purchase:

2412091-12-revo by Paul Kemme, on Flickr

Bought this for my son for graduation (he'll pay for some of it). Tentatively named it "Larry" (short for Lawrencium - gotta be an element, right? - in honor of his grandfather).

    ENGINE:

    K24A8

    TRANSMISSION:

Stock 5 speed automatic, all wheel drive.

    SUSPENSION/WHEELS:

    Stock,
    - fairly new tires
    - new pads and rotors at all four wheels

    EXTERIOR:

    Stock
    - Atomic Blue Metallic
    - Polished and restored headlights

    INTERIOR:

    Stock
    - no tearing at the left side of the driver seat like a lot of them.

    AUDIO/ELECTRONICS:

    Stock AM/FM/CD, 270 Watt

    Future Plans:

Engine: May install the candy blue valve cover I had done for my other Element in this one to match the exterior, then redo the one from this for the other.

Exterior: We talked about a silver pinstripe a little further up on this one.

First services were a 2x (so far) drain/refill of the transmission; the fluid that came out still looked pretty good (dark red, but certainly not as ugly as some honey colored ones I saw). Used Meguiar's Medium Restoration kit on the headlights. Ordered a large syringe to facilitate filling the differential. Installed aluminum hood release handle (plastic one was broken), replaced one backup bulb. The one common thread on many Elements is a fairly rusty rear bumper beam; again, this one isn't as bad as most I saw, but still more than I'd like to see. I will probably buy a new one, undercoat it, install it, then have the removed one stripped/derusted, powder coated, probably undercoated, then install it in the other Element.

Always something. TPMS system light came on. My friendly neighborhood Honda dealer says the sensors are original (13 years) and three of the four batteries (molded into the sensors) are dead. I'll have him replace all four. Also a passenger side airbag recall to take care of. Just $10 extra to have them come and get it, then bring it back (7-8 miles away?). They didn't leave the key to the HR-V the guy drove over here.

Ouch! $400 later (and that's with a discount!), four new sensors and working TPMS system.

Did a 3x drain & fill of the power steering reservoir using my 1+ quart syringe. Kinda similar to transmission drain & fill. Vacuum out tank, fill, start, turn wheel back & forth, repeat. Less messy than trying to drain the reservoir by removing hoses.

Looks like she went somewhere and got right for summer (the massage palor, yoga studio, and the spa). Looking good.

88.600+ Changed plugs just so I know what condition they're in. Old ones didn't look too bad. Also installed a new AUX port to get that part of the radio working again.

I think he broke 100,000 miles this week. He finally got around to changing a failed passenger door window regulator (handed him the service manual and said "ask me if you need any help.").

This one is officially off the payroll as well. Took my name off the title, he got his own insurance, and he's buying a house, so I was able to drop him and the vehicle from my insurance. Pay raise! I'll leave the thread here if anything noteworthy goes on in the future. Now up to 104,000 miles.
