Here's the back seat cusions installed, except for the rear armrest. I'm taking that and the headrests to a pro to install them and make sure there are no wrinkles or rips. They fit super tight and since they're such a focal point I want to make sure they look good. Anyway, here's the rear cushions installed.

And just in case you get the center seat belt receiver confused as to which side it goes on, it bolts to the right side. There should be plenty of slack for it to move to the sides. The buttons should face upward.

I just realized I hadn't posted any fully done pics of stockinteriors' covers, so here you go. Keep in mind this is their two tone "plush" option.

      Front:

You can see here the hooks to fasten the headrest covers on, but for the life of me I couldn't figure them out. I thought I had this one, only for it to come undone since I've finished everything.

Thanks Mike. It does feel nice! The best part is the new smell. It's not like "new car" smell, but it's nice nonetheless. But then I get out and look at the body...wah wah wah

Just wanted to let you guys know I'll be finishing school in the next couple of months, after that I'm planning on having a bit of extra time to work on the old girl.

I was thinking about documenting some of my upcoming tasks, like the rear suspension rebuild, bodywork, upholstering the doorpanels, etc.

I'm new to video so bear with me, they're probably not going to look professionally edited but you have to start somewhere.

If you guys have any good rec's for air compressors big enough to paint and do bodywork with, I'm all ears.

A little update: mileage is at 393450. I got rid of my other car and I'm just driving this car exclusively, believe it or not. This sucker is cheap to run baby!

I'd been experiencing quite a few niggling little issues that were worrying me for a bit, including subpar gas mileage (24-25 mpg) and my tach has been fluttering. The flutter started last year, but only at high revs.

Recently it's been bouncing up and down lower in the range, and I can actually feel the motor cutting out somewhat. It even died on me a couple times in traffic.

So I started reading again, and I read everything from a bad igniter (replaced early this year) to just a "bad" distributor. So I said eff it, I ordered a new distributor off of Amazon, despite others recommending getting a dizzy from the junkyard.

I should've listened, because I got the new distributor installed, and it had no tach signal whatsoever lol. That got me thinking...could it be just the distributor cap? I peered underneath my original's cap and sure enough, the center and outside pins looked very worn and oxidized. I reinstalled my old dizzy with the new cap and boom, the tach is happy up and down the range.

I double checked my ignition timing, adjusted it a tad, and got it right in spec at 15 degrees.

I replaced the FITV with a new Honda one as well.

Next up is the rear suspension. I just graduated a couple days ago, so lots more time to spend on the old girl.

I'm still about 12,000 miles behind. For future reference, the FITV can usually be fixed just by replacing the o-ring on the internal piston.

What are planning to do in the rear?

Definitely looking forward to seeing some video content on the car.

You wouldn't be the first to just skip over the cap and move on to replacing bigger things.
Actually on my 90 when my coil went bad I put in an Accel coil and noticed the car ran dramatically stronger.
Really was unexpected to have it be a noticeable difference
Its still sitting out front with a broken crank bolt, lol.
Sound like you got it all good now.
Wish I could set my timing but i didn't think about it till the tranny and engine were back in the car.
My lightweight flywheel had no markings!
I would have transferred them to it if I'd noticed. Pretty much just set it by ear, lol
I'll be keeping an eye out for updates.
Hope to see you at the meet on the 20th.

                      FITV problems maybe?

So I noticed my radiator was leaking all along the top seam the other day, so I picked up a new radiator and set about replacing it. This went well, with no other leaks found. After a couple of hours I had it done. I topped up the coolant and went about bleeding it.

After several sessions of bringing it up to operating temp, the idle just would not stop bouncing. Now keep in mind, I'd never really totally eradicated my bouncy idle. When cold, it would still bounce for just a little bit until the system got a tad of heat into it. It wouldn't need to be up to operating temp - just running for a couple minutes would do the trick.

Back to yesterday...I bled it properly at the nipple, and let it come up to operating temp while squeezing the upper hose here and there to work the bubbles out. The idle just kept bouncing as if to mock my efforts. I'd had enough and shut it down for the night.

I figured maybe I have an intake leak I never diagnosed. So I hooked up a homemade smoke machine to check. No leaks anywhere on the intake.

So I took the intake tube off. I started the engine, blocked the FITV port (the top one) with my finger, and lo and behold, the idle settled down to a normal warm-up RPM, about 1100RPM. I let it go and it stayed there. It kept running and got up to operating temp, no problems. WTF? Was there possibly some air that got stuck in there?

I'm going to let it cool down to see if it does it again later. My current genuine Honda FITV is probably a year old, for what it's worth.

                            Bye, girl

Well I sold the '91 off to my friend. His young son needs a first car, and even though I know there are safer cars out there I know he'll be fine in this one as long as he drives safely. There just aren't as many crutches baked into these old cars. In any case...I'm glad I picked this one up. It was a great learning experience.

I know how that is. I saw "Woody", the last 92 Rosewood coupe I sold last year the other day in a local grocery store parking lot - at least the kid hadn't wrecked it yet.

And what's funny is one of my girlfriend's neighbors down the street recently bought a '90 or '91 brown/tan interior 5-speed sedan. I wasn't even inquiring about buying it, but he starts talking about selling it for $x. It was a good price for a running and driving 5-speed! Then again I have no idea what it looks like under the hood!

Something is trying to make me get another sedan! I want a wagon, dammit!
