How can I tell if junkyard halfshafts are genuine Honda?

Given that we all know parts store driveshafts never last as long as the genuine article, does anyone know if there are any telltale stampings or marks that might indicate a Honda piece?

I'm trying to move forward with my '92 and if I could find some at the yard and not have to pay $600 for new ones, that would be nice.

    Thanks

Frankly, by this time, good original axles are going to be difficult to find unless it is a low mileage wrecked car.

It's possible. The last time I was there I ran across a '92 with 179k on it. I'm tempted to go see if the axles are still there and snatch them up just in case they are original. Is my idea of low mileage skewed?

I may have gotten that out of the original axles on some of mine, but any I've had over about 200,000 have typically started needing new ones.

Before I started doing all my own work, I had them replaced on Ruby with lifetime warranty units - they've been replaced at least once on both sides.

if your car is automatic, I know that my D/S axle had a rubber dampening ring about halfway up the shaft when I had my car inspected in the early 2000s and still had the original halfshafts on there.

if they are rusty and look like they are dried out and beat up, it's probably OEM. if it looks like its nice enough to reuse, it's probably a replacement :P

otherwise, i think the OEM axles had a plastic type coating over the shaft (which starts flaking), whereas the reman units are bare or painted.
