Hate to bring this up, I just finished doing my Timing belts. I replaced my lower Timing Cover because my old cover was hitting my alt belt. I replaced the rubber ring, and my new cover is slightly hitting my new cover.
Does the rubber ring go outside or inside of the lower cover? Looking at the design of the cover it looks like it is just a dust stopping rubber, not a shim for the lower cover.

        Thanks.

The rubber goes on the nut outside the cover.
