ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Not having a timing belt cover is a stoopid idea. If anything gets stuck in there or falls in there and something jams even at an idle you can say bye bye engine.

Soo...simply put.>>Everyone knows you have timing gears there, even if they are adjustable, it shouldn't be the main attraction in your engine bay.

If you need quick access and for some reason have a need to adjust the cam timing more than once the top cover can be removed very easily..and guess what more??? it will stay on with one 10mm bolt which means it can be easily removed and adjusted in under a few minutes.. even if there is a need to show it off because it is shiny and anodized..and still sitting on "0" degrees because you are afraid to adjust it.. lol

I figure adding a couple more informational tidbits wouldn't hurt here since this is a good subject.

On a sohc setup, adjusting your cam will only change kill power or slightly change the power band. If you have a factory cam you may actually kill your low end tq by adjusting it. (with an aftermarket cam and the correct ignition event, you may gain a few higher rpm hp in trade for pk tq if your engine can spin fast enough and you have a good ignition system that can keep up)

Since the duration of a single overhead cam is fixed and you can't change the overlap of the exhaust and intake opening and closing you simply cant make power by scavenging either...

So what are you doing to potentially make power???? well..nothing really other than reducing stress on the valve train with a lighter weight pulley and removing rotational weight.

Honestly If you are serious about putting one on and have no experience with cam tuning or engine building I would just find a lightened non adjustable one, put underdrive pulleys on and keep those uncovered. The performance gain will even be better since its a one piece pulley and lighter.

You will get more power by advancing the distributor and running higher octane fuel and if you want something that looks really cool under the hood, and is functional (if you want to mess with your timing and see the rotor button position at static tdc)- get a clear distributor cap.
