But yeah, unless you're crazy light, all the real fast drag guys are turbo. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing much natural aspiration at all on the strip at this past Tuner Mayhem.
The superchargers can't compensate for altitude. They are essentially an NA engine with much more power. They lose power with altitude the same as an NA engine though, since the boost is based on a fixed ratio with RPM. Turbos can keep the wastegate closed to build a higher pressure to compensate, which is why it is preferred for high altitude applications.

A good role of thumb is about 3-5% power loss with each 1,000 feet of altitude, although it will decrease faster the higher you go because 50% of the Earth's atmosphere is below 18,000. So you should definitely be feeling power loss by Pike's peak. You probably just didn't notice.

No shame in an N/A build, I just have done it before and I didn't want to just drop the Euro-R back into the car as-is. I was going to get the nitrous setup installed again, but that felt kind of passe'. So turbo it is.

I actually have the JRSC pulley setup, and an Eaton M62 from a junkyard, with some custom manifold mounting work it wouldn't be that hard to install. But a turbo would be more efficient in the long run and actually be easier to install.
I'll be watching this closely. Gotten back into mine recently too.

Probably longer than I think, lmao! I plan to get the rest of the car put together (suspension, interior, etc) first, while finalizing the motor and turbo setup on a stand. Might end up installing it next summer?

Yeah, I looked at that same diagram during my research. Theres many different configurations you can go with, each with pros and cons and workarounds. Certainly an interesting topic, and possibly a fun side project someday.

The theory is pretty simple, the supercharger fills in the boost where the turbo is weak, and the more efficient turbo takes over at higher engine speeds.

The execution is a lot more complex than that though. Check out Volvo's latest four banger. It is twin-charged.

I'm trying. It would be awesome if it turned up in one piece, but that is not very likely. Even if it does, it will likely not be in the same pristine condition that it was.

Can't really think about much else, really. It feels like it wasn't just a car... like somebody stole my entire hobby away from me.

I'll probably end up hanging onto my stored parts for a while just in case I come across another shell (anybody have a low-miles EX coupe for free?) but I'm not too hopeful at this point. The clean ones that are worth anything are too pricey to buy ANOTHER one of...
