    Crankshaft issues

Ok going to try this again and be a little more clearer.
I just got done with my timing belt. Took the car out a couple times and it ran perfect. On the way home from my last trip (about 2 blocks away from my house I noticed a slight vibration coming from the engine area and then noticed my battery light came on. I thought oh shit my belt fell off so i coasted it home into my garage a found out it wasnt just my alternator belt. I popped the hood and saw both accessory belts came off and the crank pulley was loose and the crank bolt was on its last threads. I popped the timing belt cover off and found the balance belt fell off and the timing belt was just barely still on. I removed the timing covers and crank bolt, and found the keyway was all bent up so I pulled it off along with the balance belt and gear. I took the timing belt off next and the the timing gear came off smooth until it hit the end of the crankshaft and got stuck. I used a gear puller to remove the timing gear. After all that I inspecting everything and I really couldnt find any damage to anything (valves, keyway groove). But it doesnt seem like I am going to be able to put the gears back onto the crankshaft because I think there is a slight mushroom on the edge of the crank because of the loose pulley.

I need to know how to get those gears back on. Ive come up with only on conclusion and that is to high grit sandpaper and lightly smooth the mushroomed part of the crank end. Does anyone else have any ideas or comments? I attached pictures.

Figures I would get that. I don't think there is anyone that knows anything more than oil changes on this site anymore.

If you read the post I said it didn't fall off. But nice try. And a simple Google search shows this happens quit often. Besides I don't claim to be an expert just a weekend warrior looking for help from someone who knows more. Go troll your porn site forums I'm looking for someone who knows there s#! t.

I don't see any issues with what you're suggesting. Depending on how badly it's mushroomed I don't see the point in using very high-grit paper. The key and a properly-torqued bolt will prevent the crankshaft pulley from moving at all once it's reassembled.

Usually, you could use a combination of heat and dry ice to expand one component and contract the other. I just don't think this application will allow you to apply dry ice to the snout of the crankshaft.

Also, use red Loctite on the bolt when you reinstall.

I just need to get rid of that fraction of a mm of mushroom at the end. You can't see it very well but it there. The gear slides freely right until it hit the edge of the crank and then stopped dead.

Alright jackass, I read it just fine, belt on belt off same difference. A simple google search..yeah. But yet youre on here asking questions, simply google your query. Obviously youre not an expert and probably have no business messing with that shit. If you think your crank snouts chowdered you should probably check some things, Like perhaps the snouts just fine as its forged and stronger then the belt pulley. Use a caliper and check the pulley's bore diameter,(check the snout also) I bet you thats the only thing that got messed up. Other than that if the snout is indeed mushroomed use a machinist's file and strope it. not a sawing motion.
Dont use locktite on the pulley bolt unless you plan on never doing timing belt service again. Do you have the crank pulley holding tool? You put a little motor oil on the threads and torque to spec. (which obviously you didnt do before) Other than that you didnt get any replies because youre asking non vehicle specific questions which google could have helped you with. And you sir enjoy your porn forums yourself.

Instead of posting 2 separate troll post not answering my question how bout you start off with that post first? But I'm a jackass for calling you out on it? I guarantee if I was next to you right now your demeanor would be much different and you wouldn't be calling me anything but sir. Now go back to your fapping your good deed has been done today.

Could you use a plastic mallet and tap it on completely?

I could but I'd have to hit pretty hard I think.

At this point what do you have to lose?
As long as you can get the gear on and torque the pulley bolt you'll be fine. I recommend blue loctite...red is overkill imo.

With that being said, you can file, sand, shave, expand, contract, force, etc. Just get the pulley and gear on.

If anyone is interested now or in the future:
I wiped down the lip of the crank very lightly with some emery cloth stopping every pass to see if the gears went on. Took very few tries and the gear slipped right on. You can't see any scratches from the emery cloth. I was pretty impressed how easy it was.
I ended up ordering new gears because I didnt feel comfortable using the old ones. Gonna take a week for them to get here (sucks) I will update if it works or doesn't.

For the record, red Loctite can be heated to remove by heating the head of the crankshaft pulley bolt.

Personally, I don't use it at all but I have tools that allow me to torque it to spec. The op has already had one crankshaft pulley mishap, I doubt he wants a second.
