    Opinions On Commuter Car

I go on Co Op for school this summer/fall...and I might have a job where I need to commute in traffic. I was thinking about getting a different car since my CB7 is a stick, it'll be a pain in traffic and I want to do work to it that might tie it up for weeks at a time, like getting the panels welded in right and things like that, and I'm gonna need a car every day.

I have a car in mind I want to look at, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

    I was looking at 89-92 Supra's...the non-turbo auto targa...

I want something that I'm not gonna be tempted to mod but still is respectable. I figure the turbo is too much hassle to work with, and I'd be tempted to get a stick. I know that the head gasket is notorious to blow at 100K, but i'd make sure I could find one that's been changed out. I've been looking and I should be able to find one for around 3K. I'm just thinking it might be fun to have while I'm rebuilding the CB7.

I mean I might get a job that's close to my house so that having a stick isn't even an option, I'm just testing out the water here. I've just always wanted a targa. (My dad had a 73 Porsche 914 when i was born and I loved that car).

I can't even say I'd be even getting one, but I've seriously thought about this, and I would just like some honest input.

I just sold my 89 turbo for 900.00 about 6 mos ago....car ran and had 113,xxx on it... head gasket had been replaced already...you can find an n/a for way less than the price you are looking at spending... I saw a 92.5 the other day for 3700 and it was a turbo... black with 102k ... get a da integra 90-93 they have some good power and then you are all in the family.... you can land one cheap and the motors are great in those things... easy to find parts for and not pricey like a supra would be.....

I like the Integra's don't get me wrong, but I want something that I won't modify lol...and if I got a Teg I'd want to mod everything on it, and I couldn't bring myself to buy an Automatic Honda/Acura product, plus I kinda want to get away from the Honda thing if I'm already gonna make mine a project, I just wanted something with a bigger/smoother motor to commute with...but not a sedan lol

My mom has an escort, I feel scared doing 35 in that thing...and my ego isn't big enough to be seen in a metro...I was just looking for something that had some appeal in stock form that was still a sports car, but got me out of the "import" scene...

Get an older Maxima. Even the autos are decent with power. And they still look pretty good.

The last Saturn I drove I almost blew the clutch trying to make it move lol...but I'm still not sure if I'm even gonna get another car, because I'm still not sure where I am working...but the Maxima is a possibility, its just where I have a sedan now, I wanted something a little sportier looking, and the Targa on the Supra seems like it would be a lot of fun

The Supra would be fun... It's just a shame that the one I drove was such a turd... "The dual cams make that noise until the oil gets into em... it takes some time." or so said the salesman...

A Maxima would be awesome. I drove a beat-to-shit 89 Maxima home a few years ago for my friend (he was planning on getting his license, he's going on 25 and still hasn't to this day). No speedometer, busted rear window, dirty and poorly maintained... and it still rode like a dream!
