ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

ebay sri vs brand name sri

Is there really that much of a difference in performance between no name and brand name intakes?

    #2
This has been covered EXTENSIVELY on this site since 2003.

A pipe is a pipe, especially when it comes to short ram intakes. If it fits, it will work the same as any other. The filter is the issue, though. A cheap filter won't work as well, and will likely allow dirt into your engine. A quality filter is necessary.
If you bothered searching for this topic at all, you'd have seen countless people being told "buy a cheap SRI and put a quality K&N, AEM, or Apexi filter on it".

but do people have fitment issues using the ebay pipes?

Maybe. Ebay doesn't make anything, so anything called an "ebay" part can be any generally low-quality, inexpensive part... fitment and build quality can vary considerably.
However, I don't know of anyone that has had an issue fitting any SRI that was made for their car.

Find a pipe in a junkyard CB, and it'll fit fine. Then plop down $40 for a K&N filter and you're good to go.

Yeah, AEM is overpriced, largely due to he CARB exemption (it's street legal in California.)
You could always look on ebay or craigslist for used ones, too.

i did the home depot . go look for pipeing the same size or a little bigger the throttle body . get some 20 , 40 ,90 degre bends or what you need to get it where you wont it . then run it to where your heart desires and tack weld on the way . once its the way you wont it then take it out and fully weld it. simple cheap and less then 50 bucks . just dont try to smog your car with it .

Or just use plastic piping and epoxy. The intake doesn't get very hot. Shit, you could use flexible ducting (people have done it...)

It's your car, man. Be creative. Just think carefully about every mod you do to determine a) if it'll actually be beneficial, b) if there is any way it could cause damage, and c) if doing something yourself is going to be comparable to paying money for a "real" part.
