Keep in mind you are asking about ATF and most people will say to always use Honda fluids.

I think where you see a lot of differences is with the manual transmissions and people recommending GM's SychroMesh over a Honda fluid.

Of all the Hondas that my family has owned, we have always used genuine Honda ATF for the automatic transmission. Even in my mother's 06 CRV we had my brother's shop use only Honda fluid when it came time for a drain and fill; cost a few bucks more but in the end i think it was well worth it.

It has only been in my manual swapped Accord that i used used non-Honda fluid in it but at least i used Mobil 1 fluid.

After having used both, i think i like how the Honda ATF works in my trans better.
1997 Ford Explorer V-6 AT (what a piece of junk)
1993 Nissan Sentra M/T (front end damage, off road for now)
          1999 Mercury Mountaineer V-8 A/T - RIP (rolled: totaled)
1992 Honda Accord A/T EX - RIP (transmission shot: sold to junkyard)
