    IACV problem... i think?

    Hey guys,
Any ideas you may have would be greatly appriciated.

Ok i got the car running, and decided since winter is coming to go ahead and put the IACV on it, even though it didn't surge without it.
Actually it ran fine without it, it justwouldn't idol until it was warm.
Well now i had it on and it ran fine, no surges nothing..

but.... today it started surging on me. while the IACV is plugged in. and going down the road it does fine when pressing the gas, but as soon as you let off it boggs down really hard like, just as though it's surging at high speed.

so i unplug it and the surges stop while idoling,. but when i go down the road it still has a slight bog when you let off the gas and try's to surge if and only if the rpm's are at 1500.

ok i removed the TPS and it works perfectly,

so i am at a loss..

Someone posted this nice article that summarizes what you should do to find out your problem.

      nice info,

although my car does not have a starting valve or a fast idle thermo valve.

some would say thats my problem, although i didn't have it when it was an auto either.
I had no problems with the idle.

although it may be possible i have an air leak, i doubt it, but it's worth checking out.

I hope that IACV you installed is clean as a whistle and installed tight. Before plugging in the electrical connector, I would adjust the idle as per the FSM, and then plug the connector in.

          keele, keele, keele,

take out the plenum and fill all the air holes in it remove the iac and all the sensors connect the iac and adjust idle with the screw

i hate idle problems so i eliminated them

I'd keep the IAC, since without it the ECU throws a CEL. Plus its kinda necessary.
                    wat?

what about the fitv? and where exactly would you do with the coolant lines if you only keep that iacv?

just re-route them, kinda like taking out the heater core. just bring the lines somewhere else.

thats why if u read my first post ull see "hide the iac"
keep it plugged but hide it underneath the mani
coolant lines u can always reroute them
and i dont have any startup problems at all

ok , i see what ya'll are saying, but even when it's unplugged it started surging...
just not as bad, and only at 1,500 rpm's

the idel screw has been adjusted first.
and i put the iacv back on due to cold weather.. it doesn't idel as high as it should when cold and thus takes forever to heat up at all. I don't really like that.

I am starting to think it's an air leak,,, just an assumption. I need some carb cleaner and i'll know.
