    MPG monitoring computer

I'm thinking about getting into building one of these and installing it in either the rex or the accord or both, they take a bit of work though, you have to be somewhat adept in electronics and programming

$20 for the board, 10 for the lcd, the rest is soldering and filling in your values, then a bunch of debugging and working out the kinks, but I'm excited. If anyone else is interested you should buy it and we'll get these things working for cb's!

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I am interested but I would rather buy a complete one without having to work on, unless a bunch of us got together at someones house built them, then i would built my own.

Well someone's gotta blaze the trail so everyone else can do it without as much hassle

It's just a matter of hooking into you injector signal wires (all at the ecu) the vss signal, a ground, 12v power supply. But then you have to work out injector flow rate, vss rev's per mile, and some of other things...I guess that's only fun to me

How would you do all that?

The project even has a quick way to determine cda, or drag, by seeing how quickly you slow down coasting in neutral at a higher speed, versus at a lower speed, neat!

Hmm...sounds interesting. I think I want to do this.

But I need to paint my car first.

Thank God my bimmer came with an OBC(on board computer) that gives me access to MPH, MPG, RANGE(how many miles tro a full tank),Time, etc, etc. Its good but also a negative because with all these high gas prices it becomes obsessive staring at the MGH read out. Now I just check my range and MPG once in a while to make sure that I'm not really losing MPG per tank.

got it together and working, took about 4 to 5 hours or so total

still very buggy, but I'm very optimistic

took me a good 4 hours or so..but someone with proficiency, and all their tools in one place, and someone with less patience then me could do it in maybe 45 minutes to an hour and a half.

I find it fun and interesting though si time doesn't bother me too much. I did have to go to radioshack and buy more stuff. A serial cable to transfer to the board (they also sell a usb board for more money), and I bought a project box, wire, resistors, transistors, cat5 connectors *wink*, diodes, erm I think that was it, but an electrician would already have that kinda stuff lying around, saving their cost.

I have it mounted in the car now, but I'm not getting signals I'm working with the project leader at ecomodder right now
                          http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ed=1#post36906

The people spearheading the project have so much electronics and programming knowledge, I'm embarrassed to ask for help, but I hope it will help advance the project. If I can get it running good, it will be less work for the next person.

At the point it's at now, we have no numbers for a car to car basis, so you have to practically take a guess and then work it out from there. I have to work on the crx tomorrow but I should have time to rework the wiring on this and hopefully get some rudimentary function.

holy crap I was just thinking about one of these for our cars the other day.

My friend's mom's volvo has an analog needle gauge that tells her approx. how many miles per gallon she is getting and it amazed me seeing it in action haha.

Like the majority of the posters here, I am almost retarded when it comes to electronics, but if you figure it out, I'll definitely hop on board and give it a go!

Older cars, like carb'ed cars used a vacuum gauge which you can buy at an auto store that could tell you fuel mileage in one way or another, I suppose there's a simple way to read mpg off of manifold vacuum...but I suppose it's a little more complicated with elec fuel injection
