    Milled head and timing belt.

I'm about to mill my head .020"-.030" and I've been looking at posts and a lot of people say the timing belt might not be tight enough? I was wondering if anyone here has milled their head and had problems with the timing belt? Would I need to use a different timing belt if I do this?

Also people say that you need to adjust your timing when you do this? Do they mean cam timing (need cam gears?) or ignition timing??

    Thanks

You are taking off the head so that means the timing belt needs to come off and dizzy coil also. After you finish milling the head you will need to set back the ignition timing and the timing belt will adjust also.

I was under the impression that I needed to advance my timing not retard it? something like 1 degree for every .012" milled?

they mean ur cam timing needs to be corrected for milling of the head. ^^ i believe is correct!^^

milling the head advances the timing, so you would need to retard it to get it back to stock. However, a little advance is okay, so no biggie unless your trying to tune it just right. as far as the belt goes, I don't really know.

                wrong....it retards the timing

advance 1 degree for ever .012 milled

                mill it .050, don't be a weiner.

So now I'm confused as probably anyone else reading this thread. So I checked it out, guess I shouldn't have been so lazy in the first place, and here is what I found:

                  Taken from: http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/us110324.htm
Milling also reduces the height of the camshaft, which in turn retards cam timing.

Therefore exratedaccord93 is right and the timing needs to be advanced.

My question is, do I need cam gears to advance my timing? If so, what are good cam gears that don't cost too much money??

WTF? get ur head milled to .050?? umm which head are you talking about? Like for me..im getting my H23a head milled .020 which will be frankensteined onto my JDM F22a bottom end! so anything more than that i would have to get it clayed cuz there might be valve clearance issues?? its a good thing its only $45 dollars to get er milled w/ pressure check!

Not to thread jack but does anyone have an idea what my compression would be near with a JDM F22a bottom & H23a head milled to .020?? im hoping for high 9s:1 CR.......

BTW i think that people may have been refering to the belt issue with THIS hybrid idea, because when you use the H23 timing belt the tensioner is already near max'd out..so milling the head may increase this..... im not sure though!
