i think he already beat u to it..since it says in his first line that, that's the first thing he checked i really wonder at times if people read the original post in it's entireity (sp?) first or not ..but neways in response to the OP..can't really help u..dont have an automatic..i'd say take it to a dealership and see what they say..dont necessarily have to have them fix it.. good luck..

YO...might want to change out your TCM...that might be going out....Change that out...and that MAY solve your problems!!
              hit up ebay for one

just go to ebay motors...then click Parts and assessories....and then type in Honda Accord ( 1990 -1991 ) and look for a TCM!!

              good luck

NOTE: you said your "S" ( sports ) light is blinking...that indicates that your TCM is going bad....CHANGE IT OUT!!

TCM ( Transmission Control Module )

let me know how it goes once you change it out!

BINGO...thats it mayne.....take the old one off....and put the new one on...

                  and you should be good!

OR..to get rid of that headache....just do a changeover...take that AUTO tranny out..and slap in a Manual tranny...you'd have to ge the shift linkages...and whatnot...but at least you won't go through the TCM hassle!

BUT if you must have an Auto....then change out the TCM...

My advise is not to do anything untill you jump a wire or use a paper clip in your little blue diagnostic port under your passenger side dash/kick panel to see what codes you get from the TCM first. Just doesn't make sense to spend money on something that you might not need because you didn't troubleshoot first.

thats true..BUT...mayne...my mom's old 91 LX auto ( sports shift )was doing the EXACT same shit...and when I did slide a paperclip in the service port...it kicked out a code that showed the TCM was bad...the circuits were fried...for some reason...we changed out the TCM..and it fixed the problem...and SHE turned around and sold it for $350 due to driver door getting smashed in..and Front pillar crushed..( unibody )

SO..my advice would be to focus on that TCM....more than likely...if its got OVER 100K its probably gone south ( TCM )

but its nothing better than being skeptical before shelling out money...its a good thought SWERVE...but....he should most def...look into getting a new TCM

just my advice and opinion ( from experiences )

The reasoning behind what I said is that I had changed my starter last January and about a month and a half later my "S" light started blinking. Needless to say with the amount of miles on my car, I was totally ready to start looking at getting another TCM untill I pulled the codes a few days later. Got a #2 code for the lock-up solenoid. Did some looking around and found that of the two harness conectors that are beside one another, one wasn't pluged in as far as the other. I pluged it in all the way, pulled the back-up fuse for a few minutes, buttoned her back up and everything is good. So I must have some way pulled the connector loose when doing the starter and after a month or so, it vibrated apart further throwing the TCM code. Just food for thought.
