    how do u double clutch.....

hey guys whats up im a noobie at racing i dont have much experiance and i wanted to know how to double clutch.....can some one please help me out??????

first stop watching shitty movies like fast and the furious. then stop picking up the lingo from them and hoping it gives you street cred.
double clutching is pushing in the cluth to take it out of gear, have it in neutral, release the clutch, then press in the clutch again and put it in gear and release the clutch. wow, what a waste of time. i think it was useful for some sort of vehicle at one time, but i dont know what it was. perhaps a big semi with lots of gears? i dont know.

It was mainly used in older cars, which (like Fizz said) didn't have synchros. The only racing application for double clutching would be taking turns, when you have to downshift and match the gear speeds.
Heel-toe braking is also a useful technique along the same lines. That's when you hit the brake AND gas with your right foot (gas to get the engine to a certain RPM range) and working the clutch with your left. THAT is still a fairly useful technique even with our modern cars.

None of it will help drag racing, however. The Fast and the Furious is full of crap. Take NOTHING from that movie other than entertainment.

Also, just for future reference (I might make a sticky of this info...)
Things that are false in TFATF:
      1) Motec doesn't make exhausts
      2) 10 second cars are NOT that common among everyday people
      3) Double clutching is worthless in drag racing
      4) "Granny shifting" is NOT a technical term!
      5) "NOS" is a brand name! Nitrous, dammit, nitrous! (Imagine Brian walking in there saying "I need Zex!!!" )

I'll add more when I watch the movie again!

how about adding that nos is a brand and that nitrous is the substance used?

you may want to try getting some new manual transmision fluid. Honda MTF, GM synchromesh and "redline" are all very good to use.

and yashumoto tires? wtf?? In my many days at tires plus, I ahve never seen, heard of, or read about "yashumoto" tires. True, some would argue that they can't say that x brand tire in a movie, as they are not sponsors, but c'mon! yashumotos? WHATEVER!

yes heel-toe technique.. just watch drift king's drift bible.. or any episode of initial D :-D . my car is auto... but when i had my cousin's car i was practicing heel-toe... it's cool beans... especially on turns.

                    NOS sticker = 10 hp.

                    hehehe.

Yeah, heel-toe is some tough stuff to master... I tried it a little today when going around some curves. Not that it's really necessary in the type of driving I do, it's still cool to know it!

It's so easy to slam the brakes when doing it.

Yeah I don't really know about the whole double clutching thing...Isn't it all about synchronizing your RPM when you downshift??? And if it is, then heel-toe technique and double clutching serve the same purpose aren't they?? 'coz I know I heel-toe whenever I'm braking and downshifting, and I always synchronize the RPM when I downshift...But I don't do the whole crap with putting it in neutral and all that tho..I just pretty much press the clutch, downshift while at the same time tap the gas pedal so the RPM will go to wherever it's suppose to in that gear, and then let go of the clutch Works the same I think..
What I don't get is, why did some of you do that while going on turns? 'coz I know with me, I always downshift before I go on turns, that way when I do enter the turn, it's one less thing to worry about, and also when I'm about to finish the turn, I can just punch it 'coz the RPM will be high enough for the power to kick in.. But I guess different ppl different technique...I just think it makes more sense if you downshift before entering the turns...Smoother that way...And plus, F1 racers do it too

Ronald, when you're braking, do you push the brake and the gas at the same time while working the clutch? That's proper heel-toe technique... You need to be braking and RPM matching at the same time with your right foot, and working the clutch with your left. It's pretty rough to do, and you have to shift a bit in your seat to do it (well, I do... Maybe you're smaller than I am and it's not as big a deal.)
Pushing the clutch in and revving up to speed when you downshift is just good driving Not necessarily double clutching. Honestly, traditional double-clutching doesn't do much on modern transmissions. The synchros do that work, so you're really just taking their job away from them (And damaging them, I've heard... Not sure if that's true though.) The pause and release in neutral is pretty much the heart of double-clutching.

so some of u think double clutching is useless? to me its sounds unhealthy when u dont do it downgearing...

as far as heel and toe, track the car....i ended up heel and toe rev matchiing...--bleep with the heel with ur toes on the brake, let go brake stomp gas with whole foot...---in other words, a really really quick sounding rev match

i saw my mechanic doing it as he tracks a rustang...ever since he showed me (4-years ago) i've been practising...u have to sit in a weird way..and those ricer pedals are a must
                              welcome to the DOHC-side..muuuahahahahahah
