    clunking noise won't stop!!! HELP!!!!!

ok so i have had this clunking noise when i accerate, that sounds like it is coming from the left side of the motor, but i could be wrong. So i replaced both drive shafts, and it still was making the noise. Next i figured i would do a tranny flush...and to no suprise, it still did it. and yesterday i put in a new rear motor mount cuz it was shot and i figured maybe that was it. NOPE! still does it. It almost seems like it is getting worse, but that could be my imagination also. Any ideas of what to do next would be great. Thanx guys, you have bailed me a out a few times, lets hope u can do it again.

Have you checked your axles lately. I know mine is doin that right now how are the rest of your mounts aswell dont just check the back try checking all of them even for the slightest cracks or rips. Does it clunk when you come to a complete stop aswell.

check all suspension components incuding sway bar links and bushings.

i replaced the bushings. Also i can feel the clunking in the gas pedal. so that leads me to think it has nothing to do with suspension

check the axles and mounts again. Maybe you had some shitty axles or they just went bad again

remember you had replaced a bad motor mount which puts more stress on the what other motormounts and drivetrain=axles

describe the clunking and is it more of a ticking or metal to metal deal i doubt its your axels it could be a broken spring you just replaced the axels so this shouldnt be bad already if its nothing suspension related id say its internal sit still and rev the engine to make sure thats not the problem it could also be internal on your diff on the trans bearings do go bad after a while it just happens

                  the build and demise

its more of a metal to metal sound. if i am in park and rev it, nothing happens but if im in drive with my foot on the brake and rev it, its makes the noise.

I have this problem too. It got louder as my axle got worse. I'm hoping that's what it is.

It might be a transmission problem though. I did my mounts and the clunking remained.

If it does it with it in gear it is most likely a mount or some bushings.

Have you looked at your radius rod bushings?

How about your upper control arm bushings?

                        Balljoints?

                        Tie Rods?

                        Strut mount bushings?

                        Rear engine mount?

You have 4 mounts and any combination of them could be bad with the age of the car.

So the verdict is.....drum roll please........ the header downpipe is rubbing on the cross member! Im gonna fill the front motor mount, stopping the motor from moving too much, and that should solve the problem.
