This DIY has been long overdue.
Due to recent inquiries about how to do this, I felt compelled to do this write up and share some knowledge.
Parts needed.
- OBD1 Distributor pigtail (Use one from the junkyard for your same year car, 90-91/ 92-93)
It needs to be the one that is attached to the Distributor.
- H22A4 Distributor pigtail from engine harness.
- Pigtail from H22A4 Engine harness that goes to the CPK and TDC down by the crank pulley. Leave the wires as long as possible.
- Solder or solder-less butt connectors.
- Black electrical tape or split looming.
This applies to H22A4 motors going into a CB chassis.
Here is the location of the CKP/ TDC sensor on the H22A4. It is down by the crank pulley. These sensors are located inside the distributor on the F22Ax.
So how do we fix this? We create a harness to utilize the newer OBD2 dizzy and not have to spend the extra cash on an H23 distributor.
**NOTE** If you have a 90-91, you will have to convert to external coil. CHECK HERE
With that said, let's make the harness. Let's start with the sensor pigtail.
The pigtail has the following colors:
GRN 1 2 RED
BLU 3 4 WHT
Twist the green and red leads together; these are the TDC wires.
Twist the Blue and white leads together; these are the CKP wires.
Now the wires go as follows:
H22A4........F22Ax
GRN.......... ORG/ BLU
RED.......... WHT/ BLU
BLU.......... BLU/ GRN
WHT......... BLU/ YEL
You will be connecting the H22 leads the the F22 distributor pigtail.
Here you can see how it should look.
Now to connect the remaining pigtail to the harness.
Take the 4 pin pigtail that connects to the distributor. Make the following connections:
4 Pin Connector..........Harness
YEL..........................ORG
BLK..........................WHT
GRN..........................ORG or GRN
YEL/GRN....................YEL/GRN
Here is the finished harness.
Plug and Play.
