If I'd done it with a cherry picker it might have been cake. What really made it difficult was just the odd way the trans would try to rotate. Note to self: next time I do this, back the car into the garage so I can use a cherry picker!

Thanks for the compliments and support ya'll.

Congrats on getting it in. When I replaced mine way back when, I used a floor jack to get it close, then leaned over the fender and manhandled it into place. Luckily, the manual trans doesn't weigh near as much as an automatic.

Yep, putting my H22 trans back in with a twin disc clutch by myself was horrible! I fought and fought for a good hour I think trying to get it. Next time I'm just pulling the engine I think as you can't lower one end enough to get the trans on.

I can only imagine what a pain that was.
They have even given me a little trouble with the engine out, lol.
Glad you finally got it. Congrats!
To bad I couldn't swing by to help with all this all going on.
I'm pretty sure we could have gotten my hoist in there from the side too.
Anyway, keep at it. Look forward to seeing the progress.

I'm still plugging away at it. It doesn't look like much, but I've been vigilant with wiping away heavy grime and such that I don't think I'll be able to get once everything is together. Besides, I don't want to be too aggressive with the power washer once I can get it outside, given how old some of this wiring is. I already found a break in the thermo sensor wire that goes into the side of the intake. Not to mention I've been taking my time to clean every electrical connection, lightly resurface metal where necessary, and add a little silicone grease to plastic connectors in an effort to make them less likely to freeze together.

I've replaced the hose that goes into the heater valve, the coolant hose that does the half loop on the back of the intake, and the thermostat. The sub-harness, battery tray, starter, and ignition coil have all been reinstalled. As soon as I can get the clutch bled I'll reinstall the passenger side fan.

I went to bleed the clutch and it felt ok, but not what I expected. There seemed to be a little hitch in the first couple inches of movement that feel like it just needed adjustment. I get down in the floor to check it out, and wouldn't you know it, the clutch master is leaking!

"HAHA!" I thought, "I thought of that, mf'er! I have a replacement right here!"

So I start to go about replacing it. An hour later, the cotter pin at the pedal is still laughing at me. I'm reconsidering my life's decisions at this point.

Anyone have a recommendation on a tool to get that pin out? I've tried picks of various types, straight needle nose pliers, 90-degree jaw needle noses, etc.

That cotter pin is a real bitch if it’s on the left side. Thats the way mine was at first. Don’t loose that pin either lol. I did that also. I would definitely recommend replacing the stock line with a new braided one also. It’s a very nice improvement. Great job so far man.

Yes, mine is on the driver's side AND it was inserted from the top. Whoever worked the pedal assembly area that day can eat a big fat one.

I think I cut that pin and used a hitch pin when I put it back together.

That was my exact thought after I got it out! Unfortunately I'd just gotten back from the parts store and I didn't feel like going back out to get some. I just got a couple inches of steel wire and looped it through.

Yesterday I pulled my dash in a misguided (?) effort to replace my A/C evaporator. Someone told me afterward that the dash doesn't have to be pulled to take it out, but whatever. My whole console was already out, so getting to the bolts was cake. And my clock was already broken from someone else apparently.

I found this tag underneath the dash. Maybe the production date for the dash? The car? I don't know.

Here's the evaporator right after I got it out of the car. The external black box was surprisingly easy to open too. Wow this thing was nasty.

                      ROH
Now I think I'd mentioned I'd been wanting to do a Rotor Over Hub conversion, but I was looking to do it as cheaply as possible. I'm not trying to outbrake anyone in SCCA so brakes with performance equal to or slightly better than stock will do me just fine. I want to do it just to make front brake problems that much easier to solve, and maintenance easier to carry out. I went to a lot of trouble to replace everything on my '91's brakes, and now I might have to pull it all apart again. We'll see.

                      Here's what parts I'm using:
1998-99 Acura CL 2.4 front brake rotors, new Bosch
1998-99 Acura CL 2.4 front hubs, used from junkyard
CB7 front wheel bearings, Moog, new
CB7 stock front calipers, new Autozone pieces
                      CB7 stock front caliper brackets
                      rubber type brake hoses, new
                      EBC Ultimax2 brake pads

Long story short, the 98+ Accord hubs I originally ordered are not the same as the true CL 2.4 hubs, despite how online parts houses may advertise. Mainly because the shaft diameter that presses into the CB7 bearings is about 2mm to wide. The actual Acura 2.4 hubs look to fit, by my rough mic measurements after I separated them from the knuckles I got today.

                      Here's the '98+ Accord hub, at ~45mm:

And the ID of the CB7 stock-type bearing, roughly 43mm. There's no way that bearing is gonna stretch that much:

Here's my CL knuckle about to take a pounding. Now I have to find someone to pull them apart. Anyone done it with a three jaw puller?

You mean to get the bearings off the hubs? I have a 12 ton press (used Harbor Freight model); I push the hub out of the bearing, which leaves half the inner race on the hub, then use a cutoff wheel to cut as deep a slot in the race as I can without hitting the hub, then put a large chisel in the slot and give it a whack to crack the race.

Need a clock? I have a couple with an intact cover over the buttons.

This would be a good opportunity to remove the carpet and power wash it.

Thanks Fleetwood, but I already have a replacement clock to go in. As for the carpet, it's dirty, but nothing I think some Rug Doctor'ing wouldn't fix. This one isn't near as bad as my '91s.

I ended up just taking the hubs to shop to have them pressed apart and new ones pressed back in. So those are ready. Now I'm going to mock up these old calipers before I get them powdercoated.

I also saw a pic of how nice Fleetwood's and others' heat shields looked all painted up and thought I'd give it a shot on mine. Did it need it? Probably not, as it had minimal rust. The bolts were super rusty though. None of them broke though and it wasn't nearly as crusty underneath as I'd anticipated. No sanding or cleaning had been done at this point:

Looks good! You sanded/wire brushed the heck out of it, right? Used high temp paint? I went to my local Ace Hardware and got stainless steel bolts and washers to remount the shield, just a little extra bling (you can see them in the photo at the link below). If you have an appropriate size tap, I suggest running it into the holes in the manifold to clean up those threads. I didn't bother painting the inside, but it doesn't hurt. I did the manifold as well when I swapped in the F22A6.

I didn't get aggressive at all before I repainted with VHT exhaust paint. Before I sanded it all down with 320 grit (per VHT instructions on the can) I put a cylindrical stone grinding bit in the Dremel and smoothed over some of the edges. The circular holes for the bolts and O2 sensore needed the most work. After that I wiped it down a couple times with mineral spirits until I no more crap was showing on my towel.

Living where I do, rust is almost a non-issue on our cars, except for exhaust components or areas of metal that are corroded from battery acid. Even then it's not that bad, as you can tell by the prior pic of my manifold. The bottom portion is almost new looking.

I was cleaning the top portion of the front beam yesterday after getting the accessory brackets off for cleaning. Look at how pristine it is on the right:

Versus the left, with some corrosion that has eaten away at the factory coatings:

Spark plug o-rings replaced, valve lash set, powdercoated valve cover back in place. I love the way the cover came out. It took a little back and forth between me and the pc'er but in the end they got it done.
